I agree – wouldn’t throw it like Newton, because the Panthers are always behind and are just airing it out. But move to more of a Ken Anderson-of-the-’80s kinda balance. Those Bengals teams were also run-centeric, but Anderson was also a lethal weapon. I say we feature Dalton more as a weapon and less of a protected baby chick.

Andy Dalton has been magical in his role so far, but I agree with D&Blitzer. I wouldn’t want to give AD free reign to throw it like Newton. Unless the other WR’s step up and the running game improves, I’m afraid Dalton will look more like a rookie when he faces the tough D’s ahead.

I agree Dalton should now be throwing it more, but not hog wild slinging it around stupid kind of more. One of the reasons he’s been so good is because they’ve managed him. Turn him too loose and he’ll be like most every other bad rookie qb.

My whole thing on the Benson vs. Scott is, Benson can’t break/avoid tackles, Scott can. So, in a weird twist, this OL went from being good at run blocking and bad at pass blocking, now it’s just the opposite. How did that happen? And because they can’t run block anymore, the team needs a RB who can break/avoid tackles. Benson can’t break/avoid tackles. Scott has to be the new starter.

D-lineman, couldn’t agree more. Shipley would have grabbed between 70-80 balls this year. And let’s face it, Caldwell, who I thought would take to the slot, has not taken to the slot. Losing Shipley serverly harmed the passing game. But it is what it is, and it will be the Dalton-Green show if this team is to make the playoffs.

Losing Shipley really hurt the passing game. It’s amazing Dalton is doing this with bascially 1 wide out and a half used tight end. They need a good number 2 guy and to throw to Gresham more.

Yes the Bengals need better balance. Lewis wants Benson to do what Jerome Bettis did for the Steelers and that just isnt going to happen. Benson is no Bettis. Benson can be productiver. But he isn’t the bellcow the team needs. Bernard Scott needs to get a lot more playing time.

I agree the pounding isn’t pounding. The run was supposed to win games but its Dalton and Green winning the games. We saw Sunday what happens if Green is gone. With Green I think they win that game. Gruden has to get Bernard Scott in there!!

Yeah, OddB’ers are smart football dudes. After the first 10 minutes, Cincinnati played Pitt tit-for-tat (if not outplayed them) without their best WR (Green) and CB (Hall). Need to get Benson out and Scott in … and start letting Dalton wing it a little more. Let’s face it, the Bengals strength is not their running game … Dalton to Green and Gresham.
